Natalia’s First Mosaic

Natalia's First Mosaic

Natalia’s First Mosaic

Natalia has been going to town during our Saturday Mosaic Quick and Easy Class. Here is her first indirect method stepping stone. We will show this to you again when the cement has dried and by then Natalia will probably have her first mosaic direct method piece completed. I think we found the next Trudi Lloyd-Williams! Nice job Natalia.

Celia’s Lamp

A fun thing about the studio is you get to meet wonderful people, artists and make new friends. This is our friend Celia and she is one of those very talented glass artists. Celia has been working hard for some time now on putting together a couple of lamps. The lamps are a combination of stained glass and mosaics. Celia you did a great job!

Suevel Studios to Host the Latin School of Chicago

This coming week (March 17th – March 20) we will be hosting 12 high school students and 2 instructors from the Latin School of Chicago.  The studio will be closed to our students for classes and studio time during the day so that we can give our undivided attention to these young people and share with them the variety of ways an artist can work with glass.  During the four day intensive we will teach the students stained glass, fusing, mosaic, bead-making and glass blowing.  The young people will also be working on a larger stained glass piece of the school’s mascot which will be hung at the school when completed.

We will still be open during the week for retail customers who need supplies and glass, so please stop by and meet these newest members of our glass art family and share your own stories of working with glass as an artistic medium.  Lets inspire the next generation to continue this oldest of art forms!  romanXXVlogo

Saturday Intro

Here are a few pictures of this Saturday’s Intro to Mosaics class. This class is geared toward the person who has never done mosaic work before. The students will learn how to create a design, cut the glass, glue and grout a 6″ square tile that can be used as a trivet or a wonderful art piece.

Update to Calendar

To help out our Introductory level students we have added the information of whether or not a class is closed (full) to the calendar page so you can know right away if the class has availability.  We will keep an eye on registrations and may be adding additional classes as needed so check the calendar page often if you are still trying to book a time.  You can also call the day before any given class to see if we have had any cancellations.  Please try to call us at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel and reschedule your class.

New Artist

One of the great things of being an artist is meeting other artists.  I would like to introduce you to Jake. Jake has been coming into our studio for about a year now and he showed us a piece he has been working on and I had to share it with all of you. Jake is a self taught mosaic artist and the depth he shows with his work is, well see for yourself!

Without leaves and with leaves.  I hope to get one that has the grout added soon and we are hoping to have

Jake come to the studio and give a talk on how he thought out his piece.  Nice Work!
