Chicago School of Glass Art

Chicago's Glass Art Studio

Lampworking Classes

Quick and Easy Glass Bead Making:

Two Sessions: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM with half hour break for lunch.  Tuition: $150.00, includes the use of studio torch head, tools and some supplies.  Students will need to purchase glass rods and provide two canisters of MAP/Propane fuel for each class session.

Come and explore the world of glass bead-making and see why this art form can be so addictive. From the time you learn to light the torch and melt the glass, you will be guided through a variety of techniques including how to create particular bead shapes such as round or donut shapes, cylinders and bicones. You will learn to decorate your beads using pulled stringers and twisties (handmade by you of course), dots and even learn how to make your very own glass frit. We’ll also try our hand at encasing and making a simple 2-3 layer murrini. This beginner class will be jammed with loads of demos and lots of fun!

  1. Do you have any beginning glass bead class the 29 of february friday

  2. will you be having classes May 5-15, for glass bead class ?

    • Dear Marjorie, we offer the Introductory to Bead-making class (a two hour one-time class) the first Saturday of every month. We currently have space available in our May 4th class. The class runs 10 AM- 12 PM and the cost is $60.00 which includes all materials for the class except for a MAPP/Propane Tank which students need to provide. They can be purchased a Lowes or Home Depot for aruond $10.00. They are long thin yellow tanks and each student needs to bring one canister to class. Please call or email the studio if you wish to sign up for this class as we limit the class to four students.

  3. It would be very helpful if you have a class schedule for each course.

    • Thanks Linda, we are are in the process of redoing all our classes. Because we do not run all the classes all the time the only classes that post on the calendar are the current ones. As we receive requests for classes new ones will post. Is there a specific class you are looking for?

  4. I would love to take classes for lampwork! I would like to be informed of a class at end of may or during the month of June. Where do you suggest I look up for the info?

    • Rachel we offer an Intro to Beadmaking (lampworking) the first Saturday of every month. The next level lampworking classes are being reworked and should be listed soon.

  5. Hi,
I live near Springfield IL and am interested in your beginner lampwork bead making class – but an all day class rather than a 2 hour one. Will you have openings this summer?
    Thank you,

    • Hi Christine,

We schedule the all day classes on an as needed basis. You should contact the studio (224)735-2376 to schedule that class.
