First Fusing Club Meeting

The First Meeting of the Fusing Club was a huge success, with glass fusers attending both the morning meeting and the evening meeting!  We gathered to discuss the topic of “Inclusions” in glass and had examples available of fused inclusions including aluminum foil, crushed garnet, copper foil, bubbles and GlassLine Paper.  Students then spent time completing projects which included copper mesh, brass sheet metal, painted leaves, coins, reeded glass to create bubbles and more!  Projects went into the kiln and will be pictured here soon!  Plan to join us next month, on Thursday, October 24th at 10 AM or 6 PM for the next meeting of the Fusing Club, when we will discuss glass casting with frit.  Cost is $5.00 for just the demo, or $20 if you want to stay after the demo and work on a project based on our discussion.  Students are encouraged to bring their work in so that we can see what you have been working on!Sandra's Sunset

Fusing Club Begins

Next week on Thursday morning (10:00 AM) and evening (6:00 PM) we will launch our new Fusing Club.  Anyone who has taken our beginning level fusing class is welcome to join us for three hours of fusing fun!  Each month, on the fourth Thursday of the month, we will hold our Fusing Club. Students are invited to come in for a workshop on various advanced fusing techniques followed by discussion time of problems or questions regarding your current fusing projects.  Then stay for some studio time with other fusing enthusiasts and work on a project using the technique taught that evening.  Students staying for studio time must have their own tools and supplies.  Cost:  Just the demo, $5.00 (one hour); stay for additional studio time and have us fuse a piece $20.00.  This month we’ll be discussing inclusions, how and what can you include in your fused pieces besides glass?  How do you fire a piece that has an inclusion?  Join us and find out!  Please call the studio and let us know if you will plan to attend.  Students attending the September meeting will have input as to what topics will be covered in October.  Hope to see you Thursday!

Glaskolben Classes are on the Calendar

Our very popular Glaskolben (Glass Blowing) classes are back for the 2013 run.  We have made a couple of changes–the class is one day and runs 10 AM – 1:00 PM, you will receive 10 glass blanks to create your ornaments, and the cost has been lowered to $75.00.  We run a limited number of these classes with a strictly limited number of students, so call today to make your reservation.  Class fees must be paid at the time of registration in order to guarantee a spot.  We will not hold spots for students who have not paid the class fee.

Here’s your chance to make some traditional one-of-a-kind mouth-blown glass ornaments.

Class Info: This is a one day workshop. Markay Giving a Demo On GlasskolbenEach class is 10 AM-1:00 PM with no break for lunch.  Each student will receive 10 blanks and frit for their class.  Cost is $75.00.  Students must be at least 18 years old.  Students must bring at least one canister of MAP/Propane fuel to class, we do not provide these.  Students should wear cotton clothing, flat shoes and tie back long hair.

Too Successful?

For all our Groupon, LivingSocial, and AmazonLocal customers, Thank you!!  You helped make this our most successful offer to date!  Between the three companies and offers we sold close to 500 vouchers for Introductory classes in stained glass, fusing and mosaic.  For those who have already come in to take your class we hope you had a great experience!  For those who have not yet come in, we can’t wait to meet you and hope you will have a great time when you come to visit.

Of course, the downside of selling so many vouchers is that we have already run out of class space for almost all but some of our Wednesday morning classes.  Not to worry though, the voucher will be honored at any time, just print out a copy (as we won’t be able to access it through our merchant center after the expiration date and neither will you) and bring it in with you when you come in.

We hope to have the 2014 class schedule posted by the end of September. Once the calendar is posted you can call and schedule your class at any time.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, but we hope you will find that it has been worth the wait!

Oh and FYI, if you have a group of 5 or more people we can work to accommodate you at a time other than the scheduled class times.  Call the studio and we’ll work with you and your group to find a day and time that works for everyone!
